Hello,

SMUT is an attempt to optimize OPEN file access under DOS 3.3, not by
patching DOS 3.3 itself, but by physically reorganizing the disk catalog
track. Therefore the performance gain will only be weighted/measured on the
early steps (i.e. locating the file entry within the catalog track or
creating a new file entry if no match found) of the file opening mechanism.

The archive can be downloaded from the URL below:
http://bgilon.free.fr/apple2/SMUTpart1.zip

and it includes, a disk image with both the source and the executable
binary, a PDF describing its operation and how to use it, and finally a PDF
listing from the assembly.

Have fun,
Benoît
