Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where to obtain copy of Merlin 16 (NOT merlin 16+), as Merlin 16 runs under ProDos 8 and is soft-switch compatible.

(I assume it is public domain as is all the other fantastic stuff by Glen Bredon)

All the archives seem to have is 16+.....and Merlin 8 of course. But 16 was much better than 8 (full screen editor, much faster, etc) even for doing 65C02 development.

Thanks,
Paul M

Did you search Asimov? They have quite a lot of "merlin" stuff if you search through there site index text file. I found this listing below, and it does not indicate a "plus," but that does not mean it is or isn't!:

ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_IIimages/gs/programming/assembler/Merlin_16.zip

or:

ftp://public.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/gs/programming/assembler/Merlin_16.zip

Both are different FTP paths to the same object.

Try this one:
http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ground.icaen.uiowa.edu/Collections/Bredon/Merlin/MERLIN16.BXY

You'll need ShrinkIt or Nulib (on Linux) to unpack it. CiderPress will
almost certainly work as well.

Here are the contents:

Hi Antoine,

Do you have an ftp address where one can just download the whole folder? E.g., I would prefer to go to something like "ftp://ftp.brutaldeluxe.fr/public/" and download the whole "merlin16" folder!

This single command will do what you want:
wget -np -r http://www.brutaldeluxe.fr/public/merlin16/

Wget is available for many platforms.

Hi Jerry,

All I could find for Wget is source files (version 1.19.1). I don't know what to do with them. The install/readme's makes me think they are for Unix/Lenix. I need an executable file for Windows 7 command line interpreter. Where can I get that?

This is older, and newer ones exist, but it'll be more than enough to get
you started.

James,
no, I do not provide any ftp access. One can download them and upload them to asimov.

The files on the public repository of brutaldeluxe.fr are not meant to stay for long.

Merlin 16 is ProDOS 8, Merlin 16+ is ProDOS 16. I am one of those who love the IIGS as an 8-bit Apple II on steroids (mouse, memory, RGB, 3.5inch drive, faster CPU... but still an Apple II!)

I am developing 8-bit game and the edit/build/test cycle is much faster in prodos 8 (especially with SoftSwitch).

Cheers,
